"Rick Devin's witty, wry acrylic paintings and assemblages have the quality of fractured fairy tales, combining surreal images with titles that allude to fables and folk tales"

_____Doug Norris Art New England

"Although dealing with Introspective subject matter, Devin manages to present that subject which can be appreciated universally.

_____Judith Scott, Westerly Sun

"Such weird and wonderful images pour out of Rick Devin's brushes"

_____Bill Rodrigues, Narragansett Times

"But spiritual characters are not the only things being created from Devin's mind. If you can imagine it, he may have created it."

_____Patricia Ann Chaffee, Westerly Sun

"Whimsy and fun are here in abundance.  Wordplay makes an appearance. Curiosity and imagination have entered the room. Surrealism sits in the corner. It's a heckuva party"

_____Marylou Butler

Press Comments

Rick Devin has been plying his craft and defining his art for over four decades.  Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, he was artist in residence for the Performing Arts For Children and executed countless drawings for the Pittsburgh Playbill as well as many other Pittsburgh businesses.  He received his degree in Environmental design from Point Park University.  Upon graduation he worked in advertising for a brief time as an assistant art director and spent six months working for the Atomic Energy Commission.  Deciding that type of work was a bit too constricting, he established himself a a freelance artist and designer. He opened a small gallery in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh, published a book of pen and ink drawings and created numerous pieces for interior decorators and architects.  He moved to Rhode Island over thirty years ago and established another gallery/studio in his home.  He continues to freelance, designing and executing his first obsession of art for his eceletic clients. His work has been exhibited around the country and is in numerous private collections.  He has won many awards and prizes.  He was director of the Wickford Art Festival in the 80"s as well as being a consultant to other festivals around the state. The gallery/studio is located in Hope Valley, Rhode Island about 1 mile from interstae 95, Exit 3B on Routes 3 &138 West. The gallery is open by chance, but a phone call will ensure you that Rick Devin will be home and at work.
